about derailleur

derailleur is a best-selling newsletter devoted to telling some of the greatest stories of contemporary professional cycling in an unconventional, narrative-driven way. Founded in 2021 by journalist and critic Kate Wagner, who herself came to cycling by way of an outside field, derailleur combines sportswriting with criticism and creative nonfiction. The newsletter also occasionally publishes guest works by those new to sportswriting, early-career journalists, as well as interdisciplinary endeavors such as poetry, illustration, and more.

Paid subscriptions to derailleur allows us to continue writing great pieces about cycling. For our guest writers, derailleur often acts as a first step in publishing their work. Funds are additionally used to cover race expenses. Every new edition of the newsletter, paid or free, goes directly to your inbox. Paid subscribers also receive more frequent updates as well as features such as exclusive interviews, profiles, and comment access. A special hand-printed tote bag for founding members ships out July 2023.
